The Northern Plains Native American Art Institute will emphasize on the following goals-
In order to be self-sustaining, the institute would require a revenue creating unit. Hence a themed retreat will be included as an extended program of the art institute. The retreat will feature weekend/vacation packages that would involve Native American activities/experiences such as traditional art workshops, cuisine and music.
Since the site is desolate, it lacks urban elements from which context can be drawn. Hence, to create context, the site level planning is derived from a series of grids corresponding to Native American numerology, emphasizing on the numbers 4, 7 and 12. The main axes considered are the N-S axis and a line connecting Washington DC and the Black Hills. The point of intersection of these axes forms the center of a radiating grid.
The Northern Plains Native American Art Institute will concentrate on a wide variety of art types ranging from the fine arts, textile art to culinary arts.
The building materiality will be based on contemporary materials and colors influenced by the Native American lifestyle (primarily warm colors).
- To recreate the functioning methodologies of the Native Americans
- To be self-sustaining i.e. the various institutions within will have a symbiotic relationship with one another (like the various native American tribes)
